U.K. legislation states that vehicles towing a trailer must not exceed 60 mph (speed limits). This product only engages when a trailer is connected to the tow hitch meaning that vehicles can still operate at 70 mph under normal driving conditions, but are limited when using a trailer. Many of our clients are in the position of occasionally towing a trailer and our towing speed limiter enables them to operate as normal, instead of permanently being limited to 60 mph whether they are towing or not.
Most modern vehicles utilise a ‘canbus’ system. This is a digital system that communicates many different types of information around the vehicle. Our technology allows us to read this information and detect when an electrical connection has been made at the tow hitch multi-plug. This enables us to only restrict the top speed when there is a trailer attached to the towing hitch.
The tow speed limiter is suitable for many applications. Cars towing caravans and trailers, Pick-up trucks or vans towing plant machinery are naming just a few. As this system utilises state of the art technologies, it is only available for more modern vehicles. The vehicle must have a canbus system carrying the correct data in order for us detect the trailer attachment. Most vehicles from 2004 do have a canbus system that potentially carries the correct information.
